Brass Underground is Back with deadmau55’s Epic “Strobe” – bra55mau5

Released in January, 2017 in celebration of Canada’s 150 Anniversary  #canada150

Joel Thomas Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5, is an icon of electronic music, and his epic song, STROBE,  is considered an absolute masterpiece of the genre.

When we decided to do an acoustic cover of the song, we had to make some important decisions.

The style is inherently repetitive, so the arrangement had to somehow keep the drive without tiring out the players. This meant trading out some of the repeating licks between instruments and shortening certain sections.

Members of Canadian Brass in the studio with some of the production team of STROBE. Canadian Brass released this in Jan 2017 as a tribute to EDM artist, deadmau5, and in celebration of Canada’s 150 Anniversary. #canada150

“I have always felt Deadmau5 has an incredible control over sound and space, to the point that when I listen to his music I can literally almost see it. With the brass version the sound was completely different so we had to capitalize on other aspects of the song, namely rhythm and harmony.” -Chris Coletti

Many cite “Strobe” as the quintessential EDM (Electronic Dance Music) song of all time.
